NINE ARMED METEORIC IRON TIBETAN DORJE (Item No. Dorje 01)
(
Sanskrit: Vajra - Tibetan: Dorje)
Origin: Tibet
Age: 250 - 70 years approx
Lenght: 180mm (7.1 inches approx)
Price: £110 (including postage Worldwide)

Nice, hand made iron dorje. Sold to me as containing meteoric iron. Many old iron Tibetan objects do contain at least small amounts of 'sky metal' as the iron from meteors is considered to bring extra power to ritual objects and charms. This is especially the case in dorje as the dorje is often associated with the thunderbolt and so 'sky metal' is a very desirable metal to add to the mix.

Iron dorjes such as this are quite rare, and this is of a nice size. Where as most dorjes have five arms (four plus the centre at each end) this has eight plus the centre making nice.

Five armed dorje mainly symbolises the four directions and the cnetre, as well as the five elements (earth, air, water, fire and space0 and the five Buddha families. The additional four arms of a nine armed dorje represents the none -cardinal directions and the consorts of the four directional Buddhas. This also symbolises the nine vehicles or yanas; the center and the eight directions. Also the Buddha and his Noble Eightfold Path.

This is a very special dorje.

A nice, antique pair of 'peaceful' cymbals tied together with an old sky blue silk kata offering scarf. Used in Buddhist ritual, cymbals are either 'peaceful' (Tib: rol zhi) or 'wrathful' (Tib: rol mo). The difference between the two kinds is in part dependent on the practice they are used for, and on their shape, 'wrathful' cymbals have a larger central dome.

The cymbals are village or monastery made, having being cut from thick sheets of brass rather than cast. They have a nice sound and a wonderful patina and 'rustic' quality to them.
