TIBETAN COPPER AND SILVER NOMADS CONTAINER (Item No. Container 02)

Height (Excluding Chain): 116 mm (4.6 inches) approx
Width: 120 mm (4.75 inches) approx

A Tibetan copper pot with silver mara (sea monster) decoration. The pot does not stand up and has a chain running from each side by which it is meant to be hung up. It is not waterproof, although in shape it somewaht resembles a water cainteen. I have been unable to identify this object but it is stylistically Tibetan and I presume it is some form of nomadic container.
It has a hinged lid which opens and is kept closed by means of a catch. The pot is well made and the join of the two hand beaten copper sheets that make up the body is not soldered but carefully and soundly pinched together by means of a folded rim. It shows great skill in it's construction, and yet it also has a 'rustic' feel to it which suggests a nomadic origin.
The container is in very good condition, and it quite suitable for use or display remembering it will need to be hung from a hook as it will not stand up.

Large, beautiful cloisonne altar incense burner. Designed for Tibetan stick incense rather than loose 'smudge', the sticks are normally placed in sand or ash held within the pot.
The burner has arms which are fixed onto the pot by means of small screws, and three lion feet. The arms and one of the feet are slighlty loose, although there is no danger of them detatching and the function or look of the pot is not effected. The pot has a pierced lid through wihc the smoke flows. This is set with a snow lion on the top. There are slight pits and air bubbles here and there in the cloisonne, but generally it is good condition with no cracks or missing sections.
A delightful and very special sacred object for your altar or collection.

An antique traditional small wooden pot in the shape known as a 'Mughal Tower' used for storing the sacred red tika powder which is used as an offering at sacred sites, made into a red paint by mixing it with water and smeared on statues at shrines as part of the daily practice or 'puja'. Tika is also thrown at people during the Hindu Holi festival.
The pot is about half full of original powder which has evidently has become damp during its life and set solid, although it could easily be ground up again if required.
The pot is in good condition, with no cracks or areas of weakness.
